The“Estação Ecológica de Juréia-Itatins (EEJI), located at Vale do Ribeira, south littoral of São Paulo. It has an area of 79.230ha and covers part of the cities of Peruíbe, Iguape, Itariri and Miracatu. The environment Protected Areas were created with the objectives of give protection” to the natural areas that are yet not degraded and with rich biodiversity and sight beauty to be preserved as the memory of an environmental past squandered along the humanity history.

| Vegetation: | Open "campo" on mountaintops, moist forests on mountainsides, "restinga" vegetation and mangrove swamps near ocean. |
| Flora: | High diversity and high endemism expected, at least 500-600 species; some disjuncts from Amazonia; threatened species. |
| Useful plants: | Rich in medicinals; species for fibres, timbers (especially Tabebuia cassinoides); edible species (especially Euterpe edulis); ornamentals. |
| Other values: | Ecological sanctuary for threatened fauna; research station; potential genetic resources; ecotourism; historical sites. |
| Threats: | Palm-heart gathering, logging, hunting. |
| Conservation: | Assured with establishment of Juréia-Itatins Ecological Station. |
